The Tortoise and the Hare
Did you know the Tortoise and the Hare is over 2,500 years old? It came from Ancient Greece, told by a man named Aesop. It was not a formal race at first, just a teasing challenge! The story was meant to show that being proud and mean is a bad idea. Long ago, people even used this simple tale to make fun of important, boastful leaders.
The arrogant hare always mocked the tortoise for his slow pace. Tired of the teasing, the tortoise looked the hare in the eye and firmly challenged him to a race.
The hare laughed and accepted the challenge with pride. Soon, the animals of the forest gathered at the starting line, excited to witness the unusual race.
As soon as the race began, the hare dashed forward like a gust of wind. In the blink of an eye, he left the slow-moving tortoise far behind him.
After running for a while, the hare stopped and looked back. Seeing the tortoise nowhere near, he felt full of contempt and pride for his own speed.
Thinking the race was already won, the hare decided to take a nap under a large tree. He enjoyed the cool breeze, confident that he had plenty of time.
Meanwhile, the tortoise moved slowly but steadily. He remained focused on the finish line, taking one step after another without ever stopping to rest.
The tortoise crept past the slumbering rabbit. He held his breath, not making a single sound as he carefully tip-toed forward. He kept his gaze fixed on the goal, moving forward with quiet determination.
As the sun began to set, the rabbit woke up with a start. Seeing that it was already late, he jumped up in a panic and raced toward the finish line as fast as he could.
When the rabbit arrived panting at the finish line, he found all the animals gathered there. They were cheering loudly for the tortoise, celebrating his incredible and hard-earned victory.
The rabbit was deeply regretful. He realized that his arrogance and carelessness were the causes of his failure, and that steady persistence was what truly mattered in the end.
